Vigo Junior School PTA

Vigo Junior School PTA was formed in 2003 by a small group of parents and teachers. The association was started because we all believe parents and teachers would want to see our children and our school flourish and become a model for others in the future. Everyone who has a child at Vigo Junior School automatically becomes a member. All we ask of you is to support the PTA, support Mrs. Green and to show some amazing young people how important they are within the school community.

At present the committee is made up of 3 parents and 6 members of the school staff. The PTA committee has to be re-elected every October and new members are made extremely welcome.

Projects so far

Every Friday all the classes take it in turn to perform a class assembly. All parents and families of these children are in invited to come along and see these marvellous mini productions. When the PTA was first formed the children just had benches to perform on. The committee decided that the purchase of a stage and sound equipment would be the first project. Within that first year the children had both of these valued assets and the PTA was well on the way to funding their next project – playground equipment. The PTA raised £10,000 with the help of school staff, governors, parents and local businesses. With this money the children now have two football walls, magnetic wall games, slingshot, wall targets, activity tables and a wooden adventure trail. Following the support and fund raising success the PTA have since purchased story boxes for literacy and last June managed to raise enough to provide stage lighting costing £6,000 for the children to use during all their school productions, as well as radio microphones so that now all the children can be heard while talking in assembly or in productions.

We have recently funded new playground markings with bikes and trikes for the children to ride on the road markings.

Events

The PTA holds a Halloween, Easter and End of Summer Term disco. A great opportunity for the children to mix with friends from different year groups, dress up and have fun. As well as picking up some great moves from their teachers!

Every Easter there is an Easter egg raffle, the eggs are always donated by school staff and the PTA committee. A sponsored event usually happens termly, so far there has been a fill a matchbox, sponsored anagram and two whole school sponsored walks. The PTA has also held two summer fetes with the last one raising £4,600 profit.

In February we held a 'Mad Hair and Odd Socks' day where the chidren and staff contributed £1 each to take part. We raised over £200 to go towards the fund to purchase replacement playground apparatus. The same night we held our annual 'just for fun' Quiz Night, a jolly evening for both parents and teachers to challenge the old grey matter with a little healthy competition!
